239 Scientists Write Letter To World Health Organization On COVID-19 And How It Lingers In Air

Written by on July 7, 2020

We all have our own conspiracy theories when it comes to the coronavirus but, when real scientists start to have them that’s when things get a little scary.

Especially when over 200 scientists collectively come together to write a letter to the World Health Organization with concern. The concern being the transmission of COVID-19 through the air making it airborne.

Scientists say it’s just not adding up and the WHO is not being forthright however, they need to be. The reason they say is that the WHO does not want to cause panic amongst the public. The fear people will not take other precautions seriously like hand washing and social distancing.

The open letter to the WHO was published on Monday and was written by 239 scientists to be exact. The letter questions the WHO’s guidelines that the virus only spreads through respiratory droplets. The droplets can come from a person coughing, sneezing, talking, singing, even just breathing.

But the scientists that wrote the letter say smaller droplets can stay in the air for over several minutes however, the WHO claims there is no evidence the coronavirus is spread this way.

Scientists do not agree. What they see with the transmission of the virus states otherwise and they have no other plausible explanation other than COVID-19 is airborne. They suggest airborne transmission is the cause of outbreaks in Washington State and at a call center in South Korea.

The scientists suggested in the letter three ways to reduce airborne transmission in offices, schools, hospitals, and nursing homes. Two include circulating a steady supply of outdoor air and an air filtration system that uses ultraviolet rays to purify indoor air. Reducing crowds in public buildings and on public transportation is the third suggestion from scientists.

Not sure what is going on here but clearly hundreds of scientists are concerned and that alone is enough for me. I understand the World Health Organization is worried about people panicking if COVID-19 is in fact airborne. But, the more you know the better we can all protect ourselves and move forward accordingly.

Look at what is happening in the United States now. If leaders knew this virus could linger in the air for over several minutes making it airborne the outcome in the U.S. would be a little different. We would not be number one in the world for COVID-19 deaths and positive cases right now. I believe the entire country would have done what Governor Cuomo did with the state of New York.

For now continue to wear your mask, wash your hands, and practice social distancing to keep yourself safe.

The article on businessinsider.com is a long read but it has a lot of information. I actually think Gov. was listening to some of the scientists that wrote this letter.
