23 Million People Nationwide At Risk of Being Evicted

Written by on August 6, 2020

This past week almost 1.2 million laid-off Americans applied for state unemployment benefits. After rising for two-weeks straight towards the end of July, last week new jobless claims had been down 249,000. Before the pandemic the amount of Americans trying to get unemployment checks had never been more than 700,00 per week. The Labor Department reported that this week marketed the 20th straight week where at least 1 million people requested aid because they are jobless.

Since the $600 federal jobless aid has expired people are experiencing a hard time meeting their financial need. Congress is working on renewing the federal benefit. Cornell University released some data expressing that 31% of laid off or furloughed workers, were laid off a second time.
