Written by on April 24, 2024

A Spectrum Cable worker tragically died early Friday morning after being electrocuted while performing routine maintenance on a utility pole in Berne, New York. The incident occurred around 2:40 a.m. when Albany County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a vehicle fire on Long Road. Upon arrival, they found a Spectrum Cable bucket truck fully engulfed in flames. The investigation indicated that the worker was in the bucket when they inadvertently made contact with an electric line, leading to electrocution and an explosion. The worker was pronounced dead at the scene. Spectrum Cable and its parent company, Charter Communications, are assisting with the ongoing investigation. Charter released a statement expressing profound sorrow over the incident: “This was a tragic accident with an employee who had been with us for more than 25 years. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends and coworkers who worked with him every day. This is a devastating loss for everyone, and he will be greatly missed.” The identity of the deceased is withheld pending notification of next of kin.
