Application Period Open for Mayor’s Mentor Up Program

Mayor Malik D. Evans Invites Local Mentors and Youth Ages 14-18 to Participate

(Tuesday, April 23, 2024) – Mayor Malik D. Evans today announced the return of the Mayor’s Mentor Up program, a dynamic initiative aimed at fostering enduring mentorship relationships between community role models and city youth ages 14-18. Each mentorship year kicks off with a signature event—this year, a Summer Soirée planned for Saturday, July 27. Prospective mentors and mentees are invited to apply to participate by Friday, June 14.

“Mentorship is a powerful experience for both mentors and mentees, one that inspires hope and delivers opportunities across stages of life,” said Mayor Evans. “From community role models, our youth can discover the wealth of options they have for a prosperous future. From our youth, mentors can benefit from the energy and fresh perspectives they bring.”

The Mentor Up Summer Soirée will bring together mentors and mentees, as well as community agencies, colleges, and business leaders. The formal yet fun environment is an opportunity for young minds to practice networking with peers and leaders, forming connections that could lead to natural mentor-mentee partnerships and potential career opportunities.

Last year’s inaugural signature event, the Mayor’s Mentor Up Gala, drew 55 mentees to network with community leaders and organizations. The program’s second year is designed to build on that initial success.

“I met so many people at the Mayor’s Mentor Up Gala and even got to meet the Mayor,” said Trevor Wiggins, a 2023 Mentor Up program participant. “I’ve stayed in touch with my mentor ever since that event, and I plan to apply to participate in the Summer Soirée event this year too.”
