Writers Sue Issa Rae and Studio Over ‘One of Them Days,’ Claiming It Mirrors Their Script

Issa Rae and the team behind the film One of Them Days are facing a lawsuit from screenwriters Tyrone Perry, Shon Oku, and Joshua Isaacson. The writers claim the movie bears “29 similarities” to their script One Of Those Days, which they shared with industry contacts in 2023. The suit, filed against Rae’s ColorCreative, TriStar, Sony Pictures, and screenwriter Syreeta Singleton, includes an analysis by veteran writer John Brancato, who deemed the similarities substantial. The film has grossed $50 million and was recently greenlit for a sequel. The plaintiffs are seeking a jury trial, attorney’s fees, and damages.
