Woman Dies in State Police Custody in Wayne County

A 37-year-old woman from Wayne County died after becoming unresponsive in a State Police patrol car while being taken to jail.
Marchelle D. Sharkey had been arrested following a child welfare investigation in Walworth and charged with endangering the welfare of a child. As troopers arrived at the jail, she was found unresponsive. Despite emergency efforts, she was pronounced dead at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital.
The case is under investigation, and an autopsy will determine the cause of death.
