Trump Names Markwayne Mullin as Next DHS Secretary
Written by DJ Sight on March 6, 2026
President Donald Trump announced that U.S. Sen. Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma will become the next Secretary of the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), with the transition expected on March 31, 2026.
Current DHS Secretary Kristi Noem will move to a new role as Special Envoy for the administration’s upcoming “Shield of the Americas” security initiative, which will be formally introduced in Doral, Florida. DHS Deputy Secretary Troy Edgar will serve as acting secretary during the transition.
Mullin must still be confirmed by the Senate. His nomination will go before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, chaired by Rand Paul—a notable detail since Mullin recently criticized Paul during remarks to voters in Tulsa.
