BET’s weekly Good Black News roundup for the week of March 17–20 highlights three major milestones for Black excellence: Ryan Coogler became only the second Black writer in Oscar history to win Best Original Screenplay, following Jordan Peele; Michael B. Jordan claimed his first Academy Award for Best Actor for his dual role in Sinners; and Howard University secured its first-ever NCAA Tournament win with an 86–83 victory over UMBC in the First Four. The roundup also spotlights Florida A&M Marching 100 head drum major Oluwamodupe Oloyede, who appeared at the Oscars during the “I Lied to You” ensemble moment and is already a trailblazer as the first female head drum major in the Marching 100’s history. Jordan Chiles’s senior night gymnastic meet drew celebrity supporters including Normani and Chloe Bailey.
