Temperatures Above 85! Rochester Cool Sweep Program Is In Effect
Written by Tariq on June 30, 2026
As summer temperatures rise, Mayor Malik D. Evans today reminded residents that the City’s Cool Sweep program is in effect and will remain available throughout the summer to help residents stay safe during periods of extreme heat.
Running from June through September, Cool Sweep is the City of Rochester’s seasonal public safety initiative designed to help residents stay safe and comfortable during periods of extreme summer heat. When temperatures are forecast to reach 85°F or higher, the City activates Cool Sweep to provide free access to cooling resources throughout Rochester.
During Cool Sweep, designated cooling sites, including City R-Centers, pools, spray parks, select library branches, and Durand Eastman Beach, will be open to offer relief from the heat. Residents are encouraged to check specific hours of operation before heading out.
