Showtime’s New Series The Chi #ReignReview

Written by on December 25, 2017

Showtime’s new series The Chi is raw, relatable, powerful, and just plain satisfying.

Exceptional. Better than good. You know I could go on and on but I’ll stop here and tell you why I find this new show satisfying even with only watching one episode.

History maker and trailblazing writer/creator Lena Waithe has created a new series that will become one of the best show’s since HBO series The Wire. Yes I’m calling it now, thus the reason I say The Chi is satisfying.

Since the series The Wire ended there has been a void that has yet to be filled when it comes to the realities of our culture and our communities across the country. Lena Waithe nails it.

Now I’m not from the Southside of Chicago but I can relate to the experiences of everyday life in captured in the storylines and I’m sure you could as well. From loss to growing up in a community where violence is the way of life, to working hard at accomplish your dreams, the everyday hustle, and sneaker head lol.

The two things I will say that I absolutely love about this series is how Lena takes the unorthodox approach to tell a story from the “baby daddy” side instead of the normal single mom struggle with the no good baby daddy.

Jacob Latimore plays Emmett who finds out he is in fact the father and has to step it up to take care of his responsibility. Emmett’s mother Jada played by Yolonda Ross makes sure he does what he needs with the I’m done raising babies you need to figure it out perspective. Love it!

The second is how one incident or decision no matter how small or big can affect the lives of people around you some you know some you may not kind of like “the butterfly effect.”

Simply put this show is a must see it IS THAT good.

Lena Waithe thank you.

The Chi premieres January 7th at 10pm on Showtime.
