Chris Johnson, the former Tennessee Titans star, revealed on Good Morning America that he was diagnosed with ALS in 2025.
He said the disease progressed quickly—from a weak grip to losing the ability to speak or hold objects within about a year. He now uses a voice-generating device and says he is “still me” despite the physical effects.
Johnson, known as “CJ2K” for his 2,000-yard 2009 season, is speaking publicly to raise awareness and hopes for more research into ALS, which he believes may be linked in part to repetitive football head impacts.
