Born Rose Raubvogel in Janow, Poland, in 1912, she survived Nazi persecution, forced displacement, and the Shanghai ghetto, where she lived in a rat-infested bathroom for seven years. After escaping to the U.S. in 1947, she supported her daughter by knitting and eventually opened her own knitting stores.

Despite her hardships, Ms. Girone maintained a positive outlook on life, often saying, “Aren’t we lucky?” She attributed her longevity to dark chocolate and good children.

She is survived by her daughter, Reha Bennicasa, and granddaughter, Gina Bennicasa. Her story serves as a testament to resilience and hope, reminding future generations of the enduring lessons of the Holocaust.
