Rochester’s Judge Van White, Bridgette Burch White & Family Compete On Family Feud!

The White family knows what’s happening when “Family Feud” is on TV: They’re watching. It isn’t that the family members all are avid fans, but Bridgette Burch White is. “With my mom, in the house, all we did was watch ‘Family Feud’ for years,” Ava White said of her mother, Bridgette. “It became a family tradition.” So, unbeknownst to the family, Ava put together a video about her mother’s affinity for the show, sent it off to those who decide which families will join, and, after months passed, got the word: They were in the running as contestants. This week, Ava’s gift to her mother culminates with four nights, beginning May 6, of the family on “Family Feud.” It took remote auditions, then a visit to the show’s studio in Atlanta last year, where participation still wasn’t ensured, to make the cut.
“The big moment for me was when we walked into the studio,” Bridgette said. “It looks exactly like it looks on television. It was quite a moment for me.” Joining Bridgette and Ava were Bridgette’s husband, Van, a City Court judge, and the White’s son, Brandon White, and his wife, Omayra Ramos-White. The show airs locally on the CW network at 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. (Indications are that the family will be on the later segments but that can be subject to change.) The filming was almost a year ago and host, comedian Steve Harvey, was just as the family hoped: Kind, encouraging, and funny. During breaks he’d chat with the contestants and the humor was constant. “It was like a four-day comedy show,” Van said. The contestants were often diverse and allow the viewers to see a slice of America, Van said. Bridgette is a deputy clerk at City Hall, Ava a marketing specialist in Manhattan, Brandon in the process of getting a PhD in the educational field and Omayra a supervisor for a nonprofit youth service organization.
