A man suspected of involvement in a homicide on Oscar Street was shot by Rochester police after fleeing on foot and allegedly exchanging gunfire with officers on Sunday morning.
During the pursuit, the suspect pulled a gun and fired at close range, narrowly missing an officer.
One officer returned fire, striking the suspect multiple times. A 9mm handgun was recovered at the scene. A Rochester police officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Chief David Smith confirmed the officer is in stable condition and has been visited by both himself and the mayor.
