New York State has awarded $775,000 to the Rochester Housing Authority for a mixed-use development on Fernwood Avenue, as part of its Pro-Housing Communities initiative. The $4 million project will include 65 housing units and a small branch of the Rochester Public Library within an 80,000 sq. ft. space. Brownfield remediation will take place on-site, with construction expected to begin in the summer of 2025 and take 18 months to complete.
Other Rochester projects receiving state funding include:
Bulls Head Cycle Track ($1.3 million): Developing continuous off-street cycle tracks as part of Rochester’s 63-mile Bicycle Spine Network.
Hemlock Lake Dam Restoration ($1 million): Replacing concrete erosion control slabs to prevent structural damage and flooding.
The Little Theatre Upgrades ($70,000): Improving ADA compliance and installing gender-neutral restrooms in the historic downtown venue.
These investments aim to expand housing options, improve infrastructure, and enhance public spaces in Rochester.
