Rosa Wims, a Rochester pioneer in medical field has passed away. This is according to her grandchildren. Rosa Wims was highly regarded in the community, she was one of the first African American nurses in Rochester and dedicated her life to giving back. Wims’s Thanksgiving dinners were a bright spot each year, providing meals for hundreds of families for over 30 years while partnering with Foodlink.
In honor of her 100th birthday last year, Rochester Regional Health created the Rosa W. Wims LPN Scholarship Fund to help nursing students pursue their education. In 2015 she was given the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 11th Annual Human Service Workers Luncheon at the Joseph A. Floriano Rochester Riverside Convention Center.
