Monroe County and the City of Rochester have implemented a nurse navigator program to address the healthcare crisis.
Launched in January 2022, the program allows 911 callers with non-life-threatening issues to speak with a nurse navigator instead of automatically receiving an ambulance.
This optional service aims to optimize emergency response resources.
While the program is voluntary, those insisting on an ambulance will still receive one, although response times may vary based on severity.
Rochester was among the first U.S. cities to adopt this initiative, which is funded by AMR. More than three dozen cities nationwide have since followed suit.
