Rihanna Returns to Music with New Single for ‘Smurfs’ Soundtrack

Pop icon Rihanna will release a new single, “Friend of Mine,” as part of the upcoming Smurfs movie soundtrack, marking her first new music since 2022. Announced via a trailer featuring Rihanna as Smurfette, the track drops May 16. This is her latest musical effort following Oscar-nominated songs from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Rihanna told Harper’s Bazaar she’s “cracked the code” for her long-awaited ninth album, hinting at more releases soon. The new film, debuting July 18, also features James Corden and Octavia Spencer.
