Penfield Man Identified as Victim in Steuben County Plane Crash

Authorities have identified Brian J. Valder, 41, of Penfield as the pilot killed in a small-plane crash on Morton Hill Road in Hornellsville, Steuben County. Valder was the sole occupant of the aircraft, which reportedly took off from the Brockport area. Local residents witnessed the plane flying unusually low before it crashed. A neighbor using a drone helped locate the wreckage. The FAA and NTSB are investigating the cause. Residents in the quiet rural area expressed shock at the incident, recalling a similar crash years ago but nothing of this magnitude in recent memory.
