Ontario County Sheriff’s Office issues warning of jury duty phone scam
Written by Site Hub on January 17, 2025
The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning about a phone scam targeting residents. Scammers are impersonating deputies or sergeants, claiming the recipient missed a court appearance or jury duty and must pay a fine using Apple Pay or PayPal.
Authorities emphasize that neither deputies nor courts will ever request payment over the phone. They urge residents not to share personal information or engage with the scammers. If you receive such a call, hang up immediately and report it by calling the Sheriff’s Office directly at 585-394-4560.
