Written by on June 1, 2026

One year after 5-year-old Zy’Jae St. Pierre fell into the Genesee River from the Andrews Street Bridge, his body has still not been recovered.

According to police, Zy’Jae was walking with his mother, who was pushing another child in a stroller, when he ran ahead, climbed over the bridge railing, and fell into the river. His mother tried to follow along the riverbank but could not reach him before he disappeared from view.

Authorities described the incident as a tragic accident. After the search shifted to a recovery effort, no remains were found. A year later, Zy’Jae’s family continues to seek closure and is urging the city to install taller bridge railings to help prevent similar tragedies.
