New York Teachers Union Urges Caution on AI in Education
Written by DJ Sight on June 2, 2026
NYSUT has passed a resolution calling for limits on screen time and AI use in schools. The proposal would ban one-to-one devices and student-facing AI for children in pre-K through second grade, require paper-based testing options, and limit AI use to educator-supervised learning activities.
The resolution also opposes AI companion chatbots for children under 16, emphasizing that teachers and families should remain at the center of students’ learning and development.
