New SNAP Benefits Changes Just Started
Written by Tariq on March 2, 2026
Stricter rules to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, are coming to New York State. March 1 was the beginning of federal work requirements for recipients to keep their benefits. Adults ages 18 to 64 will have to record at least 80 hours per month of work to receive SNAP for more than three months in a three-year period. There are certain exemptions to the changes for those with certain disabilities, those who are pregnant, or caregivers. Officials encourage recipients to be prepared before the new month arrives. The state encourages SNAP recipients worried about losing their benefits to watch their mail and contact their local social services office for more information.
