New Charter School Plans 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Schedule

A new charter school called Strive will open in fall 2026 in the South Bronx with an unusually extended schedule designed to support working parents.

Founded by Eric Grannis, the K–5 school will operate from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week, 50 weeks a year — making it one of the first programs of its kind in New York and possibly the U.S.

Formal classes will run Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., while early drop-off, late pickup, weekend, and summer programming will focus on enrichment and recreation.

Strive plans to enroll 325 students in its first year with an $8 million budget, supported by public funding and private donations, and aims to expand to 544 students.

The school will provide free daily meals and be publicly funded but independently operated under a nonprofit board.

New NYC charter school will open seven days a week for 12 hours each day
