Residents and business owners along Lyell Avenue in Rochester gathered with police on Thursday for a community event called “Pizza with Police,” held at Linda’s New York Pizzeria. Attendees described challenges including homelessness, drug activity, and public safety concerns that have made people reluctant to visit the corridor. Linda Connoly, owner of Linda’s and treasurer of the Lyell Avenue Business Association, said the area needs to be cleaned up and revitalized. Lyell Avenue Business Association president Lydia Rivera emphasized the importance of relationship building between police and community members. Lt. Timothy Hall of the Rochester Police Department answered questions and urged residents to report concerns through the non-emergency line or an anonymous app, noting that issues not reported cannot be addressed. The event was organized as part of an ongoing effort to improve safety and community investment across the northwest Rochester area.
