A Naples school bus driver, David L. Ferry, was arrested after authorities found a rifle under a seat on the bus he was driving. According to New York State Police, the 57-year-old purchased the firearm from a store before driving away in a Naples Central School bus.
The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office stopped the bus on Route 247, discovering the rifle in its original packaging under a seat. The bus was occupied by 12 students, but no ammunition was present. Investigators found no evidence of a threat or intent to commit violence.
The school district was notified and confirmed that Ferry is no longer employed. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon on school grounds and endangering the welfare of a child. Ferry was issued appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in Gorham Town Court at a later date.
