More than 100 Programs & Activities In The City of Rochester’s Spring Recreation

From March through June, the City of Rochester’s Spring recreation season offers more than 100 programs and activities for kids, adults, and families. From athletics and dance to STEM and the arts, all program details and registration are now available at www.CityofRochester.gov/Recreation.

“As spring blooms across Rochester, it’s the perfect season to turn over a new leaf and try out the latest activities available at your neighborhood R-Center,” said Mayor Malik D. Evans. “Get curious, creative, and active – whatever your recreation style, our caring and enthusiastic team has just the program for you.”

Spring recreation highlights include:

Aquatics and Lifeguard Certification

Make a splash with open swim sessions, swim lessons, and lifeguard training at the Jackson R-Center’s indoor pool, 485 N. Clinton Ave. Swim lessons are available for all ages, including “Baby and Me,” PreK, school-aged children, and adults.

For those interested in learning lifeguarding skills to qualify for summer jobs, the City of Rochester will once again offer certification classes. Lifeguarding certification and recertification courses will be free to City of Rochester residents. Non-residents can also participate – $75 for non-resident youth and $125 for non-resident adults.

A Water Safety Instructor (WSI) course will also be available to city residents for $175 and to non-residents for $400. WSI certification is required for supervisory aquatics positions.

After School and Break Week Care

The R-Stars open recreation program offers a free, fun, nurturing environment after school and over break weeks at R-Centers across the city for ages 6-12. During spring break week, Monday, March 31, through Thursday, April 2, select R-Center locations will also offer extended hours. To learn more and register, visit www.CityofRochester.gov/R-Stars

Recreation for Kids and Families

Throughout the spring season, residents will find a range of activities for families and kids of all ages across the City’s network of R-Centers, including:

  • Family Fun Fridays (All Ages), 5-7 p.m., Thomas P. Ryan R-Center, 530 Webster Ave.: Gather as a family for games, activities, and quality time together.
  • Earth Explorers (Ages 6-12), Multiple times and locations: Learn about the environment, sustainability, and the natural world through hands-on activities, outdoor exploration, and interactive learning experiences.
  • E-Gaming (Ages 6-17), Multiple times and locations: Connect, compete and collaborate in open gaming and gaming leagues at multiple R-Centers across the city.

Recreation for Adults

From athletics to social groups, spring programming for adults offers opportunities to connect, learn, and stay in shape, including:

  • She Strikes (Women ages 18+), Jackson R-Center, 485 N. Clinton Ave: Build strength, endurance, and confidence while learning powerful kickboxing techniques in a fun, supportive environment.
  • Dance for Fitness (Ages 18+), Edgerton R-Center, 41 Backus St.: Groove to a variety of upbeat rhythms, from pop to Latin, all while improving your stamina and coordination.
  • Positive Pathways Parenting Support Network (Ages 18+), Thomas P. Ryan R-Center, 530 Webster Ave.: Share experiences, receive guidance, and access resources in a safe, welcoming community setting for parents and caregivers.
