Rochester police are investigating an incident in which at least two adults boarded a Rochester City School District (RCSD) bus and assaulted a 12-year-old student who was involved in a fight with a classmate. The attack, which occurred on January 27, 2025, was captured on a cell phone video and has sparked outrage in the community.
According to a family member, the student was on the way home from Thurgood Marshall Middle School when the fight broke out. As the bus stopped on Electric Avenue, several adults stormed the bus, restrained the bus driver, and physically assaulted the 12-year-old student. The student was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
RCSD officials condemned the attack, calling it unacceptable and dangerous. The district emphasized that school buses are an extension of classrooms and that such behavior threatens the safety of students and staff. They vowed to work with law enforcement to hold those responsible accountable and prevent future incidents.
As of now, no arrests have been made, but the Rochester Police Department has confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
