For the first time, Michael Archer II is opening up in detail about losing his legendary parents, Angie Stone and D’Angelo. Both superstars passed away this year, seven months apart. She died in a car accident, while he died after privately battling pancreatic cancer.
In a new exclusive sit-down on the Tamron Hall show, Michael talked about losing his mom the morning after his birthday and after being approved for a kidney transplant. As for his father, Michael shared that he had no idea D’Angelo had cancer until they FaceTimed one day. His dad had tried to shield him from the diagnosis amid his mourning for Angie Stone.

Michael Archer II Says Angie Stone Died After Kidney Update
In the TV interview, Michael said that he and Angie Stone were like best friends, often speaking to each other on the phone. After she passed away, he said there was and still is a silence–no more “nothing” conversations while in traffic.
“I’d give anything to give one of them calls again,” he confessed.
Michael said that Angie died the morning after his 28th birthday on Feb. 28. On March 1 of this year, Stone’s vehicle was struck in an accident, causing it to flip over. Her family said in a September lawsuit that the singer was still alive after the first hit, but later died after an 18-wheeler slammed into the overturned car. She was 63.
A day before that accident, on Michael’s birthday, Angie Stone had been approved for a kidney transplant. Her son said she had been undergoing kidney dialysis. He was supposed to be with his mother in the days leading up to her death, but she had encouraged him to celebrate his birthday. Meanwhile, she went on the road, performing. Her last stop before her fatal accident was in Alabama.
Michael Archer III said that he went to the club to get two records played on his birthday, and after he left, he called her to update her on the songs, but she didn’t pick up. When she called him back, he missed the call. Then, at around 6 a.m. on March 1, his aunts came to his home and told him about the accident, but not that Angie had died. Michael said he drive from Atlanta to Alabama holding out hope that his mother would survive, but she was already gone.
Michael Says D’Angelo Kept Cancer Diagnosis From Him
Seven months into coping with his mother’s death, Michael faced another emotional blow–losing the father he had been reconnecting with. As said, D’Angelo died in New York City on Oct. 14 after battling pancreatic cancer. His family confirmed the passing of the singer, who was 51. After his dad died, Michael Archer II wrote that 2025 has been a “very rough and sad year” for him. He credited his father for being there for him when he needed him most, after Angie Stone’s death. “Unfortunately, time ran out,” Michael wrote at the time.
Speaking to Tamron, Angie and D’Angelo’s son said his dad told the family to keep him in the dark about the cancer. Michael said he started asking his uncles what was going on after getting a video call from his dad. Sometime after, his uncles called him with a doctor on the line and gave him the news. After that, he packed up and went to NYC to be with his dad. When he saw his sleeping dad, Michael said he started crying, but quickly wiped his tears after his dad woke up, excited to see him.
