Louisiana Ends Some STI/HIV Prevention Contracts
Written by DJ Sight on July 8, 2026
Several Louisiana health providers are ending STI and HIV prevention programs after the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) terminated related contracts.
The move affects Protection Connection, a program that distributes free condoms through community locations such as barber shops, clinics, and convenience stores. Health advocates warn the cuts could increase HIV transmission by reducing access to prevention resources.
LDH said the decision is part of a review of which services should be managed through contracts versus directly by the department, adding that it plans to strengthen community outreach through its own staff.
