Jazz legend Ron Carter to return to Rochester for Juneteenth celebration

Written by on April 30, 2026

Grammy Award-winning jazz bassist Ron Carter will headline a special Juneteenth and Black Music Month celebration at the Hochstein School in Rochester this summer. The concert will serve as a fundraiser to support the development of the Minister Franklin D. Florence Civil Rights Heritage Park. Carter, who has performed on more than 2,200 recordings, is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music and was the first Black musician to perform with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. The Black Community Focus Fund is bringing Carter back to Rochester, with his return also honoring the centennial of Miles Davis, the iconic trumpeter and bandleader with whom Carter performed for many years. Rev. Myra Brown, executive director of the Black Community Focus Fund, said the event creates a meaningful moment to celebrate Black excellence in music and inspire the next generation of artists.
