Roc the Future Alliance is preparing to present its 13th annual State of Our Children Address and released data ahead of the event focused on academic readiness and proficiency in Rochester. The report lists kindergarten readiness at about 50% locally. It also shows third-grade English Language Arts proficiency for the 2023–2024 school year at about 18%, with year-to-year figures included for recent school years and a stated long-term benchmark of 80% proficiency. The Alliance says the report is intended to help guide decisions for districts, parents, and lawmakers, and it notes continued pandemic-related impacts on student learning, including declines in reading and math competency across kindergarten through eighth grade. The Alliance also references interventions such as in-school, high-dosage tutoring partnerships.
