Greece Residents Alarmed Over DEC Contamination Report
Written by Site Hub on June 8, 2025
A New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) report has raised serious concerns in Greece, NY, after revealing significant contamination near the former Odenbach industrial site. Local residents, Brendan and Casey Bulson, conducted independent water tests near a proposed senior living complex and found trichloroethylene (TCE), a carcinogen, at detectable levels. The DEC reported even higher concentrations of TCE and other harmful substances like acetone and vinyl chloride. While the town of Greece insists that the contaminants do not threaten the development site, residents and environmental advocates dispute this claim, citing incomplete studies and the need for more robust groundwater monitoring. The DEC plans to continue testing through 2026. The town’s perceived dismissal of environmental risks has heightened tensions as residents push for greater accountability and transparency.
