Government Shutdown Nears End as Senate Backs Short-Term Funding Deal

A bipartisan Senate deal to end the longest U.S. government shutdown advanced with a 60–40 vote. The bill funds the government through Jan. 30 and extends SNAP funding through Sept. 2026. It still needs House approval to fully reopen the government and resume federal operations.
