Written by on February 14, 2025

Former Avon Police Chief Joseph Geer pleaded guilty to stealing nearly $7,000 from the Avon Central School District while serving as a school resource officer at Avon Elementary School.

The NYS Comptroller’s Office launched an investigation in February 2024 due to bookkeeping and scheduling discrepancies.

Geer admitted to the theft and to improperly assigning another officer to cover his duties.

After resigning from the police department, Geer’s plea deal was rejected last May, leading him to plead guilty to theft of funds related to a federal program. He faces up to 10 years in prison, with sentencing scheduled for June 5.
