Ji Wang, a 63-year-old former Corning Incorporated employee from Steuben County, has been convicted of economic espionage and theft of trade secrets. Wang stole sensitive defense research data tied to a DARPA-funded fiber laser project and attempted to use it to launch a military-grade optics business in China. He was also linked to China’s Thousand Talents Plan. Prosecutors say Wang stole hundreds of documents and aimed to share U.S. military technologies with Chinese government agencies. He now faces up to 25 years in prison, with sentencing set for April 2026.
