Feb. 2nd Deadline For Property Tax Exemption In The City of Rochester

The City of Rochester is reminding property owners that the deadline to apply for property tax exemptions for the upcoming tax year is Monday, Feb. 2, 2026.
Property owners must apply by the deadline to receive any exemption for which they may be eligible.
To help residents understand the process, the City will hold a series of in-person information sessions across the city, where property owners can ask questions and get assistance with applications.
Property Tax Exemption Information Sessions:
- Noon–4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 17: Adams Street R-Center, 85 Adams St.
- Noon–4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 24: Rochester Community Sports Complex, 460 Oak St.
- 4–8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 28: Thomas P. Ryan R-Center, 530 Webster Ave.
- Noon–4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 31: David F. Gantt R-Center, 700 North St.
The City offers several exemptions for homeowners whose property is their primary residence, including:
- Senior Citizen Exemption
- Veterans Exemptions
- Disabled Persons Exemption
- Clergy Exemption
For new Basic or Enhanced STAR exemptions, applicants must register directly with New York State. The STAR benefit is received as a check rather than a credit on the tax bill.
