Families Splurge on Moms Despite Rising Prices
Written by DJ Sight on May 8, 2026
Mother’s Day spending in the U.S. is expected to hit a record $38 billion, up 11% from last year, despite concerns about inflation and higher gas prices. Restaurants, florists, and greeting-card sellers are all expecting strong business.
Overall:
- Restaurant prices rose 3.8% year over year
- Grocery prices rose about half as much
- Flowers/plants increased 7.5%
- Jewelry prices increased 9.9%
Rising gas prices are pressuring household budgets, but consumers are still willing to spend for special occasions like Mother’s Day.
