Eight Undocumented Immigrants Arrested by Rochester Border Patrol Agents

Written by on February 12, 2025

On February 5, Rochester Border Patrol agents arrested eight undocumented immigrants, four from Nicaragua and four from Mexico. Five of the individuals had final orders of removal, meaning an immigration judge had already ordered their deportation, but they had failed to leave the country. These five are now awaiting deportation, while the remaining three are waiting for their deportation hearings. All eight are currently being held at a federal detention facility in Batavia.

The arrests come as local sheriff’s offices clarify their policies regarding cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Ontario County Sheriff David Cirencione emphasized that local law enforcement is not authorized to detain individuals solely for improper entry but can execute federal arrest warrants signed by a judge. Similarly, Wayne County Sheriff Robert Milby stated that ICE is currently targeting known criminals rather than conducting broad raids.

Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter was unavailable for comment on local procedures. However, the recent arrests highlight ongoing immigration enforcement efforts and the role of federal authorities in handling deportation cases.
