A new report covered by BET and the Wall Street Journal shows Black women are launching small businesses at a faster rate than any other demographic in the United States. New data from Wells Fargo and research firm Ventureneer found Black women-owned businesses grew by approximately 13 percent in the past year, outpacing all other groups. The trend comes as the broader job market has contracted and corporate America has rolled back DEI programs, pushing many Black women to create their own economic opportunities. Most of these ventures are small — solo consultancies, creative studios, and niche product lines — but they are reshaping the professional landscape. The piece notes that despite this growth, only 2 percent of venture capital currently flows to businesses owned by Black women.
