Development for Irondequoit’s Former St. Thomas School Overcomes Key Legal Barrier

A long-delayed redevelopment project at the former St. Thomas School in Irondequoit has cleared a major legal hurdle, allowing plans to resume for converting the building into upscale apartments. Developer Joel Barrett of 43 North Real Estate confirmed the State Supreme Court upheld a use variance, which was later affirmed by an appellate court. With $8 million in investment planned, the project will preserve historic features while creating 16–18 market-rate apartments. There is already a waitlist of 100 potential tenants. Developers expect to present final plans by March and aim to welcome tenants within two years.
