Canadian Wildfire Smoke Forces Monroe County Park Closures
Written by DJ Sight on July 17, 2026
Monroe County closed several public spaces Thursday due to hazardous air quality caused by smoke from Canadian wildfires.
County Executive Adam Bello announced the closure of the Seneca Park Zoo, all county-owned parks, golf courses, the Ontario Beach Park swim area and spray park.
The Air Quality Index reached the “very unhealthy” level as wildfire smoke blanketed the region.
The Movies in the Park event at ESL Ballpark was also canceled, while pools, splash parks, sidewalks, and beaches were largely deserted.
