Avise Parsons Shares Harrowing Escape and Hope for Rebuilding After Altadena Fire

Avise Parsons, actress in Haus of Vicious, recounts her traumatic experience escaping the 2025 Eaton Fire, which ravaged Altadena, California. The fire, one of the most destructive wildfires in California’s history, burned over 14,000 acres, claimed 16 lives, and caused an estimated $10 billion in damages. Parsons evacuated with only her birth certificate and a few clothes, leaving behind her home in a community she had grown to love since moving there in 2018.
Despite the devastation, Parsons attempted to return the next day, navigating dangerous conditions to find her house still standing amid burned structures. However, she has yet to regain access to her home due to restricted areas monitored by the National Guard.
For Parsons, Altadena represents more than just a residence—it’s a place where she found peace, joy, and personal growth. Historically significant as one of the few areas in California where Black families could buy homes in the 1960s, Altadena remains a haven for many Black homeowners.
Relying on faith and support from friends, Parsons remains hopeful about rebuilding and staying in the community she cherishes, vowing, “Everything is gonna be okay.” A GoFundMe has been established to help her rebuild.
