Anna Mae Robertson, a member of the all-Black, all-female WWII battalion known as the “Six Triple Eight,” died at age 101. Born in Arkansas, she joined the Women’s Army Corps at 19 and was instrumental in sorting millions of backlogged letters to lift troops’ spirits. Decades later, she was finally recognized with a Congressional Gold Medal in April 2025. Robertson’s story was also brought to life in Tyler Perry’s Netflix film The Six Triple Eight, where she was honored by actress Kerry Washington. A community celebration of her life was held in Milwaukee, where she had lived and been deeply involved in service. Local leaders, including Congresswoman Gwen Moore and Mayor Cavalier Johnson, praised her legacy as a pioneering force for good.
