Acquitted Officer Sues New York State for $5M Over Robert Brooks Case
Written by DJ Sight on February 4, 2026
Nicholas Kieffer, a corrections officer acquitted in the Robert Brooks case, is suing the state of New York for $5 million, claiming malicious prosecution, defamation, breach of contract, and other damages.
Kieffer was accused of attacking Brooks and allowing him to be beaten to death, but a jury cleared him and fellow officer Matthew Galliher in November.
Despite the acquittal, the state announced neither officer would be rehired by the Department of Corrections.
