Dozens of Rochester City School District students are spending part of their summer at the free BuildIT Computer Camp, where they learn to build their own working laptops.
The camp, run by Great Lakes Gaming and Shift2, gives students hands-on experience with computer hardware and software—skills especially valuable for those with limited internet access at home.
At the end of the week, students take home the laptops they built, equipped with offline tools for homework and personal use.
The program also helps teens build friendships and confidence. Two more sessions are available this summer.
