The White House is reportedly considering major budget cuts to the State Department and foreign aid programs.
According to reports from The Washington Post and The Associated Press, a preliminary proposal from the Office of Management and Budget suggests slashing $27 billion—about 48%—from the budgets of the State Department and USAID.
The plan also includes eliminating U.S. funding for NATO, the United Nations, and about 20 other international organizations, along with significant reductions in global health funding.
Over a quarter of the State Department’s foreign assistance programs would be cut under the proposed changes.
