3rd Annual Rochester HBCU College Expo

Written by on October 1, 2026

The third annual HBCU football classic returns to Rochester this weekend. It kicked off today with a college expo, giving juniors and seniors an opportunity to engage with representatives from dozens of historically black colleges and universities. Organizers say that last year, there were 900 on-the-spot acceptances for attendees and $6 million in scholarships awarded. They add that events like this one open doors for hundreds of young people in our area.

“What we’re doing in Rochester is letting them know there’s more college opportunity than what you know right here in our area. And so we wanted to bring that experience to them so they can learn about it and make a choice,” said Dr. Shirley Green, Commissioner of the Department of Recreation & Human Services. New this year is the HBCU experience tomorrow morning for middle and high school students as well as alumni. Then Saturday, the game takes place at the Rochester Sports Complex between the Lincoln University Lions and the Virginia State Trojans. The “Weekend of Hope” is this year’s theme.
